About The Team


Dr. Catherine Halbert

Managing Director

Dr. Catherine Halbert (B.Sc, M.Sc, Ph.D, FRSH), is the founder of Halbert Research and an expert in EU FP7 funding. Catherine holds a B.Sc (University of Limerick), M.Sc in Plant Science (Trinity College Dublin), and Ph.D in Food Science and Technology (University College Cork).  She has a Diploma in Applied Project Management (UCC) and is a certified Project Manager (IPMA). She has worked as a research scientist in both plant science, and food science and technology. Her technical experience is quite broad and is best described as within the ‘Life Sciences’.

Catherine has undertaken EU-funded, and privately funded, international project assignments. She has over 20 years experience in research management at industry and university level. Catherine specialises in following FP7 programmes: Cooperation, Capacities, People, and Ideas. She works across a broad range of scientific disciplines and has assisted many Coordinators to successfully win EC project funding and to manage projects. Catherine is an EC-appointed expert evaluator and project reviewer, covering FP5, FP6 and now FP7. She also works as a national technical expert with Enterprise Ireland and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

Orla Kelly

Projects Coordinator

orla.jpgMs. Orla Kelly (B.Bs, C. Dip. AF.) coordinates and manages workshops, networking events, and projects at Halbert Research. She was awarded a Bachelor of Business Studies from the University of Limerick and a Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Her area of expertise is in Marketing, Business Development, and Project Management. She has more than 25 years experience working with the public and private sector, working with incubator companies on business development, marketing, and establishing links between industry and academia. She specialises in social media, event management and development and management of science parks.

Carmel O’Brien

Office Administrator

Ms. Carmel O’Brien has been managing the administration and accounts for Halbert Research since 1999. Carmel handles all queries about workshop bookings, consultation bookings, accounts, and any administrative information.

Jim Codd

FP7 Financial Expert

Mr. Jim Codd has twenty years experience in all stages of EU Framework Programmes, in particular financial management. He is currently the financial and administrative manager for three large FP6 integrated projects and is actively supporting many FP7 applications. He also works as an expert evaluator for the European Commission, as well as for national funding bodies in Ireland. Jim works with Halbert Research clients as required to develop and manage research budgets on EU proposals and projects.

 

Brian Foley

Innovation and IP Expert

Mr. Brian Foley is an expert in research and innovation. Brian has twenty years experience working with public and private sector organisations in Ireland and Europe. He holds a first class honours degree and has worked in a variety of roles in Ireland and abroad since graduating in 1987. Brian has a successful track record in the areas of intellectual property, technology transfer, innovation and commercialisation. Brian works with Halbert Research clients to develop IP plans and manage technology transfer and commercialisation from scientific research projects.
